For 20 years now, Mono have been expressing extreme emotions like few other bands can. They’ve grown into one of the masters of post-rock, along with Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Explosions in the Sky and Mogwai. With their 10th album ‘Nowhere Now Here’ Mono have added another highlight to their incredible career. It’s also one of their most experimental, as the usual post-rock and post-metal influences are now mixed with synths and even bass player Tamaki Kunishi’s vocals. Despite this, ‘Nowhere Now Here’ firmly remains a Mono record.

However, the band’s biggest strength is still their live performances, where you can practically feel the epic euphoria come to life. Tracks like ‘After You Comes the Flood’ promise to be mainstays in Mono’s performances for years to come. If post-rock really has become a bit stale, the Japanese giants prove yet again that it doesn’t have to be.
