From roots reggae, dub and dancehall to son, salsa, rumba and Afro-Cuban.
Although geographically they are only a stone’s throw removed from each other, there never seems to have been an album on which Jamaican and Cuban musical traditions meet. Inspired by the legendary Buena Vista Social Club, Australian dancehall producer and pianist Jake Savona, better known as Mista Savona, decided to change that. He brought together a band of well-known and lesser known Jamaican and Cuban artists at Havana’s legendary Egrem studio. The result is a well-made hybrid album on which Jamaican and Cuban influences and genres blend seamlessly, from roots reggae, dub and dancehall to son, salsa, rumba and Afro-Cuban. Live Havana Meets Kingston is just as much a true fiesta reggae-latina!

Journalist, filmmaker, university professor, dj … Etienne Savet has an impressive cv. Though, above all he is trumpet player, producer and founder of The Bongo Hop, the Afro-Carribean project that plays a surprising cocktail of hip-hop, tropical, dub, dancehall, vallenato, cumbia and kompa. Savet found his inspiration in Colombia, where he lived for eight years. On the first album ‘Satingarona pt 1’ he worked with friends from his time in Colombia: Nidia Gongora (vocalist with Ondatropica and Quantic), rapper Maikcel (Zalama crew) and producer/multi-instrumentalist Patchworks. As expected ‘Satingarona pt 1’ is filled with exotic grooves. You can easily imagine yourself at a sultry latin party with view on a pearl white beach an clear blue sea. A combination no one can resist!
